The Institute of International Education in New York City recently awarded Spokane Community College a Fulbright Student and Scholar Program grant of $34,375 for the 2021-2022 academic year. The Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Van Thi Thanh Dinh, comes to CCS from her home in Hanoi, Vietnam to serve as adjunct faculty in strengthening global curriculum in the SCC Business and Management Department.

One of the goals is to provide students with enriched understanding of Asia-Pacific market institutions and cultural context to better prepare them for a future career in business, management, economics, and related fields. Several undergraduate courses at SCC may be bolstered with a global perspective, including: International Marketing, Leadership Training DECA, Small Business Planning, and International Economics.

Dr. Dinh has a PhD in Finance Seminars, Asset Pricing, and Advanced Econometrics with a primary specialization in Banking and Financial Training. She will teach courses on Business, Management, Economics, and Vietnamese business culture.

Dean of Business Hospitality and Information Technology Jeff Brown said, “SCC Department of Business and Legal Studies faculty look forward to collaborating with Dr. Dinh, sharing teaching strategies, and learning from both her strong academic background and her diverse cultural experiences. This is also a wonderful opportunity for SCC business students to learn and gain international perspective.”

Dr. Dinh will have the opportunity to fully participate in faculty department meetings, curriculum development discussions, faculty professional development opportunities, guest lectures and other campus and community engagement. SCC faculty mentors will help to facilitate the Scholar’s engagement within the Department and the larger community. Dr. Dinh hopes to conduct some community forums, including a financial literacy workshop with board games and gamification techniques.

Dean of Global Education Hadda Estrada said, “I am convinced that the Fulbright Scholar in Residence program is a profound, formative, and unique experience. The Scholar and the institution are completely free to design a direction of exploration, empowering each participant to carry through and deliver the best results.”
