Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Plc has said it is committed commitment to grooming talents for the insurance industry through its annual essay awards for tertiary institutions.

The Group Managing Director, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance, Mr Eddie Efekoha, was quoted in a statement as saying this during the presentation of awards to winners of the 10th edition of the competition in Lagos.

“We have continued to execute the programme for the entire industry as some of the previous winners have been employed in the industry and creating value for their respective organisations,” he said.

The Director-General, Nigerian Insurers Association, Mrs Yetunde Ilori, urged the winners to make the achievements the least of all they would attain in life.

She appreciated the management and staff of CHI for being a source of inspiration and creating the platform for students to embark on research and express themselves through the competition.

The Chairperson, the Essay Awards Committee, Mrs Oladotun Adeogun, said the competition received a total number of 24 entries from students of tertiary institutions in 300 level or HND 1 and above studying Insurance or Actuarial Science.

She said the research topic was ‘financial technology disruption in the banking sector and lessons for the insurance industry: A case study of ‘Opay’ (mobile bank)’.

According to her, the entries were thought-provoking and very insightful.

Adeogun expressed gratitude to the independent panel of assessors for their immense contribution towards selecting the various winners based on the set standards.

According to the statement, the overall best and first prize winner of the 2020 edition is Miss Olatunji Rebecca of Joseph Ayo Babalola University.

She was followed by Mr Obikwere Victor from Imo State University, and Miss Oyefejo Olaseni from Lagos State Polytechnic.

The company said it had open entries for the 11th edition of the essay competition.
